Manual Handling
Instructor Course - Patient Lifting Next Course - FETAC Level 6

During this course, given by registered nurse tutors, candidates are trained in instruction skills as well
as the theory and practical aspects of moving and handling patients. The course is intensive and highly interactive with participants practicing the
techniques of instruction as well as those of safe manual handling. Demonstrations
and ergonomic assessments also form a major part of the programme.
The course is delivered in accordance with the Safety, Health and
Welfare at Work Act, 2005 (& subsequent amendments) that apply to
Moving and Handling in the workplace. Implications of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (General Application) Regulations 2005 will be covered. The course adheres to the Health
& Safety Authority’s Guidance relating to competent Manual Handling
Instructors and Assessors. The course is ideal for nursing homes/hospitals who require
their own in-house Manual Handling Instructor and Assessor.
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Assess the relative safety or danger of manual
handling tasks
- Lift and handle patients and loads in a safe manner
- Recommend preventative measures which can reduce
the risk of injury
- Identify ergonomic risks and recommend control
measures
- Instruct others on the theory and techniques of safe manual
handling
